About

Videoembed is a userscript.

A userscript is a script for the addon of Greasemonkey, a Firefox addon.

Greasemonkey allows its users to use scripts to configure websites they view.

This userscript looks at every link in the webpage, and acts if that link is to a video site, for example Youtube.

If the link is pointing to a video, the video gets embedded on the page they are currently viewing, so they don’t have to go to the video page to see it.

Maybe at some point I might convert it to be a Firefox Addon, but that’s not going to happen that soon.

Installation:

Get Firefox

Get Greasemonkey, install it, restart Firefox.

Go to this page and click on “Install”.

Hint: Look for a button like this: install

Now, either reload the script page, or go to any other website.

The configuration menu will pop up.

Mode:

-Auto: Automatically adds every video to the page. Might be a bit slow.

-Google: Adds a button next to each video link, when you press it the video gets loaded on the page.

-Lightbox: Adds a button next to each video link, when you press it, the video covers the entire screen.

Size: Size of the videos.

Youtube color: Different color modes for youtube embeds.

Youtube high quality: If you set this to Yes, all youtube videos will be embedded in high quality if possible.

NEW: Increment per run: If you set this higher, the script will run faster, but use more CPU.

If you want the script to use the max resources, set it to infinite. However, this might slow down your computer if a page has more than a few hundreds of links.

When you are done, press “Save and Reload page”.

That’s all you need to do.

From now on, the userscript will work by itself.

You can try the script on this custom search engine for videos.

  1. [...] Installation instructions [...]

  2. I must be stupid, because when I click on the installation instructions, it takes me back to the original page and there is NO LINK FOR DOWNLOADING THIS SCRIPT! There is NOTHING on the entire page that says “Install this Script” So……WHERE do I get it?!

  3. Just updated the page to accommodate the changes mentioned in the above comment.
